Travelling Latin America can be a daunting experience, and planning it even worse. We're talking about an entire continent, twice the size of Europe! There are so many places to see and countries to visit, all spread across thousands of kilometres.
Figuring out where to go and how to get there can be difficult when you're traversing a continent as large as South America, but a good place to start is often the top or the bottom. This allows you to work your way through a bunch of countries, and depending on your timeline allows you to see the most for as little as possible (as jumping to-and-fro via plane can cost an extortionate amount).
If you're struggling to jot down a plan for your upcoming trip, don't worry. We're going to share with you our 6 month itinerary for South America. Take from it what you want, as each person will have different views on what's practical and what is interesting to them. No point in following an itinerary if half the things you want to see isn't on it!
Our route through Latin America was a winding one as we had a few outside factors that dictated our path and timeline. Most notably was the political unrest in Peru. This meant after spending our first month in Colombia, we flew down to Argentina to work up through Patagonia.
